Mysore: The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has urged all business establishments and tradesmen to apply for the renewal and procurement of trade licences.
A week-long drive to for the renewal of trade licences, following reports that many business establishments under its limits were yet to procure or renew their licences, was launched here by MCC Health Standing Committee president Kamruddin on Monday. The drive is aimed at increasing revenue for the corporation and will be launched in all the nine zones.
The drive is also the first attempt of its kind by the corporation to issue trade licences to business establishments in revenue districts and the layouts under the jurisdiction of the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). A survey conducted in 2005 identified over 22,000 business establishments in the city.
MCC Health Officer Nagaraj, who is in charge of the drive, said: The number of business establishments has increased, and we are in the process of identifying them.” He said that the corporation was planning to conduct a fresh survey, and it was likely that private agencies would be roped in to conduct the survey this year.
“As part of the drive, officials from the city corporation will visit business establishments in each zone and issue or renew licences and collecting the stipulated fee, on the spot, from the owners.
The licence fee is fixed based on the type of the business establishment. “All businesses coming under the city corporation limits have to procure or renew their licence on or before March 31,” he said. New licences are issued either for one year or five years. The licence can either be renewed for one year or five years, he said.
