MCD blames Delhi Govt. over regularisation issue
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Reacting to Delhi Urban Development Minister A .K. Walia’s statement in the Delhi Assembly on Monday that the delay in clearing layout plans of illegal colonies by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was causing hurdles in the process of their regularisation, the civic body said that the State Government should first finalise boundaries of these colonies to be regularised before “blaming” the civic body for delay in clearing their layout plans.
Leaders of the BJP also accused the State Government of not giving enough funds to the MCD for undertaking development works in unauthorised colonies.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, MCD Standing Committee chairman Yogender Chandolia said: “So far as the issue of regularisation of unauthorised colonies is concerned, the MCD has to finalise the layout plans but before that the Delhi Government has to finalise the boundaries which has not been done. So, the work of finalising the layout plans cannot be done by the local body unless the Delhi Government finalises the boundaries of unauthorised colonies.”
According to Mr. Chandolia, the Delhi Government had promised a fund of Rs.50 crore to the MCD for development of unauthorised colonies for the year 2010-11 but only Rs.37.50 crore had been received so far.
“In all since 1998, only Rs.569 crore has been given to the MCD for the purpose. But the MCD House was wrongly informed that the Delhi Government had given Rs.3,326 crore to the MCD for development in unauthorised colonies. It means they have diverted funds to the tune of Rs.2,755 crore. These funds should be immediately released,” he added.
Tax exemption
The chairman also demanded that the Delhi Government immediately issue the notification for property tax exemption in rural villages, urban villages and unauthorised colonies. “The Delhi Government had not paid any heed to five resolutions passed by the MCD during 2007-2010 in this regard due to their political motives,” he added.
