MCD board meet to be held on Dec 15Pioneer News Service | Dehradun
The board meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun will now be held on December 15. However, the MCD Leader of Opposition Ashok Verma has warned that the Opposition will not allow the board meeting to progress further, unless a report of works executed so far is not discussed with board members.
It will be recalled that in the recent past, Verma had threatened to approach the court in order to demand holding of the MCD Board meeting. It appears that this warning had the desired effect because the Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli and Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) Sushil Kumar Sharma have discussed the issue and decided to facilitate holding of the board meeting on December 15. Sources state that councillors are dissatisfied with the functioning of the MCD because in addition to the inefficient working, even the board meeting has not been held for nearly one year, which has not given them the opportunity to raise these issues, seek answers and facilitate execution of desired measures to redress the problems being experienced by residents of Dehradun.
The MCD Leader of Opposition and other dissatisfy councillors have alleged that though many measures have been approved by the MCD board and their execution announced, no concrete action has been taken so far in this regard which has prevented important routine works like civic sanitation and development works from being executed as required.
He stressed that the councillors will not allow the board meet to progress unless the board members are presented a report of the action taken on past decisions and announcements so far.
According to Verma, as the last MCD Board meeting was held about a year ago, important directions could not be given for implementation of decisions and execution of works. Even officials are maintaining an apathetic attitude towards important tasks undertaken by MCD and leaving such works incomplete, added Verma.
