MCD contractors call off strike

NEW DELHI: Municipal contractors on strike for the past two weeks because of non-payment of their dues by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi have decided to call off their agitation after receiving an assurance from the authorities about release of their dues till September 2009.
MCD Standing Committee chairman Yoginder Chandolia who met the agitators confirmed the withdrawal of the strike by the contractors and assured that normalcy would be restored with effect from Friday. “The contractors have assured that they will continue to work whole-heartedly for the Commonwealth Games,” he added.
