MCD cracks down on illegal constructionsThe MCD demolished unauthorised portions of 17 buildings and sealed 20 others on Friday, the third day of its drive against illegal constructions in east Delhi. The drive against illegal structures in the city has been intensified by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) after a house collapsed in east Delhi on November 15, killing 70 people.
The civic agency has so far taken action against 107 unauthorised constructions in Shahdara South zone in the past three days.
MCD officials sealed unauthorised properties in Vishwakarma Park and J-extension of Laxmi Nagar. They demolished ongoing constructions in Geeta Colony, Gandhi Nagar and Preet Vihar, PD Vihar and Mangal Bazar – all of which come under Shahdara South zone.
The MCD had sealed 14 illegal properties and demolished 18 properties in the zone on Thursday.
The civic agency has received a lot of criticism for mushrooming of illegal buildings.
During the first day of the drive in Lalita Park and nearby areas, protests turned violent with residents allegedly thrashing the local municipal councillor.
