MCD gears up to revoke lease deeds of violators
Parvaiz Sultan | New Delhi
Taking exception to the fact that several plots in Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar have not been developed by the allottees even after 20 years of allotment, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has proposed to cancel allotment or revoke the lease deed of violators.
After conducting a survey by the civic body, it was found 233 plots in various blocks are still lying vacant though several of them were allotted to them way back in 1988. The agency is also apprehensive about the intension of the allottees for not constructing structures on the piece of land handed over to them many years ago.
“It is likely that these plots have been sold without obtaining approval from the MCD and are lying vacant for speculative purposes. A survey of phase I of Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar (SGT Nagar) was undertaken by the officials and observed that many plots were lying vacant at the site and no construction had been raised. Most of the plots were made in 1988,” said a senior MCD official.
A proposal in this regard will be presented on Wednesday before Standing Committee to get its nod for the purpose.
He also said the issue was discussed in the meeting chaired by Municipal Commissioner KS Mehra. In the meeting, it was decided to initiate penal action against the allottees or owners who do not start construction on their land after obtaining necessary approval in this regard within a specific time-frame.
The penal action includes cancellation of allotment of plot or revoking the lease deed. But before that the MCD will issue show cause notices to individual or owners in order to coax them into building into their plots, he said.
It was further stated before taking any stern action; the civic body will also issue public notice as well.
“The period of six months should be granted to the allottees for starting construction on the plots allotted to them through public notice as well as individual notice. In case the allottees fail to begin construction within the stipulated time period granted by the MCD, the cases should be processed fro cancellation of lease deed,” said he.
The civic body official also added as per the terms of the notice no further extension will be granted and any request to this effect will be summarily rejected.
