MCD identifies 30 tainted officialsStaff Reporter | New Delhi
Receiving flaks for patronising building mafia, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to shift its tainted officials of the Building Department to some other sections in a damage control measure.
According to a senior official, the civic body has identified 30 such officials, who are under scrutiny for their alleged connivance with building mafia or supporting illegal construction and now they will be transferred to other department soon.
“A few officials have been facing such allegation of neglecting mushrooming unauthorised construction or supporting people indulged in such activities. Therefore, it has been decide to remove them from the Building Department. The action will start from next week,” he said on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, as preventive measures so that there is no repetition of incident like Lalita Park building collapse in future, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to allow sub-division of plots. Saying due to the curb of sub-division of plot unauthorised construction is mushrooming in the Capital, MCD Works Committee chairman Jagdish Mamgain on Thursday asked officials of Building Department to approve building plan of sub-divided or combine plots as soon as possible. He also directed to regularise structures constructed up to permissible height of 15 metres as per the provisions of Delhi Master Plan 2021 after charging appropriate fees.
“Due to some technical reasons, more than one lakh houses are not regularised in Delhi. In view of the lack of housing units in the city because of the continuous rise in population, those structures are safe and strong should be regularised,” said he.
The BJP leader also added that a proposal in this regard has already been sent to the Ministry of Urban Development and Delhi Lieutenant Governor. “Now the ball is in Centre’s court. I request a notification in this regard should be issued with immediate effect. If it delays further, the people of Delhi may face sealing and demolition,” said Mamgain.
He also asked to remove officials of Building Department indulged in criminal cases straight away. “If tainted officials are terminated, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s credibility enhance among the public at large,” said he.
