MCD not co-operating in ghost employees case, HC toldStaff Reporter | New Delhi
The Delhi HC was on Wednesday informed that the MCD was not co-operating with the police which had been ordered to investigate a scam in which 22,853 of the civic agency’s ‘ghost’ employees were still receiving salaries. In May, the HC had ordered the Police Commissioner to conduct a probe within two months into the ‘ghost’ employees scam following allegations that a probe by MCD would not be proper.
Appearing for the MCD, advocate Sanjay Jain submitted that relevant papers have already been supplied and it would supply other documents to police within two weeks. M/s Transline Co, the company which installed biometric system in MCD office, has, so far, been able to verify particulars of about 10,000 employees.
A division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan was hearing a PIL filed by NGO Jagrook Welfare Society through counsel CS Parashar seeking a probe by CBI or an independent agency into the allegation that MCD was paying pay to over 22,000 gardeners and sweepers who existed as employees only on paper.
