NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has submitted to the
Central Vigilance Commission reports on independent quality inspection
of two of its Commonwealth Games projects which were under the scanner
of the anti-corruption watchdog. These projects comprise the bus parking
bay built over the covered Kushak Nullah and the road under-bridge
constructed at Sewa Nagar.
The CVC, now probing allegations of financial and other
irregularities in Games-related works, had asked all the agencies
concerned to submit replies to queries raised by it by October 31.
MCD Works Committee Chairman Jagdish Mamgain said on Tuesday:
“Questions were raised by the CVC on three of our projects. On the
project related to up-gradation of street-lighting, the CBI had already
filed an FIR and the MCD had suspended six officials including two
Superintending Engineers. Regarding the other two projects of parking at
Kushak Nullah and road under-bridge at Sewa Nagar, queries were raised
by the CVC on whether proper procedures were followed by the MCD for
third party quality inspection of works or not. We have now filed our
replies to these queries.”
“As part of the reply sent to the CVC we have compiled the monthly
reports on the status of the third party quality tests regularly carried
out by us. We are ready to provide information whenever needed in
relation to any other project as well,” he added.
According to Mr. Mamgain, the MCD had also sent a list of all the
Games-related works undertaken by the agency to the CVC last month even
though there had been no specific query from the CVC regarding the same.
An analysis by the Chief Technical Examination Wing of the CVC had
found alleged financial and administrative irregularities in 16
construction and procurement projects carried out by various agencies
including the Public Works Department, MCD, Delhi Development Authority
and New Delhi Municipal Council.
