MCD to put up boards with works data in wards
With municipal elections due next year, the Municipal Corporation of
Delhi has in a bid to introduce more transparency proposed to erect sign
boards in each ward displaying information about the development works
taken under the area councillor’s discretionary fund.
The plan was mooted by MCD Works Committee chairman Jagdish Mamgain on Wednesday.
The board installed in each ward would contain the total
allocated amount, details of the work recommended by the councillor,
total amount sanctioned and spent. The name of the contractor, date of
beginning and completion of work would also be displayed.
According to Mr. Mamgain, this would keep the people
informed about the status of MCD works and the area residents and
residents’ welfare associations would be able to monitor the quality and
material used in it.
“During the past four years of BJP rule, the MCD has
done lot of development works in various areas. However, due to
multiplicity of authorities, the achievements of the MCD do not receive
appreciation,” he added.
