MCD will not courier birth and death certificatesThe Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will no longer courier birth and death certificates to applicants. According to the new ruling, these documents will now be available only at the respective hospitals or zonal offices. Officials of the MCD’s health department, which provides online services for registering births and deaths, said the decision was taken after they discovered many applicants provided fake details to acquire these documents.
“We offered online services whereby one could order the birth or death certificate after making an online payment. We would later courier the documents. But we have now been forced to stop this facility, and people will have to contact their respective hospitals and zonal offices to get the documents,” said Dr VK Monga, chairperson, public health committee, MCD.
The health department had received several complaints from applicants claiming they never received the documents. On inquiring, it was found that the addresses provided to the department in most cases were fake. “If the child delivery is institutional, the birth certificate will be available at the hospital and if it is at home, the applicant has to visit the zonal offices,” he added.
To get a certificate, the applicant will first need to register on its website, www.mcdonline.gov.in. As many as 281 hospitals and nursing homes are linked to the website, which is updated regularly.
