MCD’s new Civic Centre to be inaugurated on April 22

New delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will inaugurate its new headquarters — the Civic Centre — on April 22.
“We have fixed the date of April 22 for opening the Civic Centre building. We have also got the consent of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, who will attend the ceremony to unveil the building,” Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain said on Friday.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, senior BJP leader L K Advani and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly V K Malhotra are also expected to be present, Sain said.
While some work at the 112-metre ‘green’ building still to be completed, leader of MCD House Subhash Arya said the civic body can shift some offices when work is on. Sain added that the building will be named after Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. The Congress had opposed the move to name the MCD headquarters after the leader of Jan Sangh.
Sain, however, maintained that “no one has any objection now”.
