In a meeting of various departments convened by the City Corporation
here on Tuesday to discuss the pre-monsoon cleaning drive, the civic
body has sought a combined effort of all departments to smoothly carry
out the process.
In the meeting, representatives of the
Corporation, Police, Fire and Rescue Services, Sewerage Department and
National Highway participated. The drive has already started in more
than half wards in the city under the aegis of the ward-level health and
sanitation committees and in the other wards it will begin soon.
“With
the association of all departments the drive can successfully be rolled
out; regarding the management of sewerage waste, the support of the
Public Works Department has to be there,” said Mayor K Chandrika. The
support of Fire and Rescue Services is sought to meet the unexpected
calamities of any kind, such as flooding and uprooting of trees.
To
discuss the pre-monsoon cleaning activities held till then, a review
meeting will be convened next week. A meeting of the councillors was
held during the last week of April to carry out the pre-monsoon cleaning
drive in which ideas like making compost out of the organic waste and
treating garbage on the spot either through burial and burning came up.
To
carry out the drive, each ward will be given Rs 25,000. Meanwhile, a
district-level meeting regarding the pre-monsoon cleaning drive has
called by the District Collector on Wednesday.
