Memorandum to close 11 subways
Jan. 18: Congress leaders on Monday submitted a memorandum to BBMP special commissioner, K.H. Govindaraj asking him to close all the 11 pedestrian subways in the city.
M. Ramachandrappa said there was no security to pedestrians in the subways and lack of maintenance has rendered them useless. Despite spending huge sums on their construction, the subways are not user-friendly and not properly illuminated. Repeated complaints to BBMP authorities have been of no avail. If security is not provided to pedestrians, Congress workers will lock them up, he said. Mr Govindaraj said BBMP engineers would inspect the design and maintenance of subways on Monday and rectify the flaws. “All the subways are being used by the public. However, flaws if any, will be rectified,” he added.
