Metro derails 14 flyover projectsHyderabad, Aug. 10: Even before the actual construction work on the Hyderabad Metro Rail could begin, the project has taken a toll on a major traffic congestion-easing project in the city. As many as 14 flyovers, which were recommended to come up at high traffic density junctions, will now not be constructed. This is because their proposed sites fall under the metro rail corridors.
The traffic police had conducted a field survey and suggested that the city needed 27 flyovers at various junctions to allow the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
The traffic police had then written to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation requesting it to construct the flyovers. But the civic body wrote back saying the construction of at least 14 flyovers will not be possible in view of the metro rail project. While the 14 flyovers happen to be in the Hyderabad Metro Rail corridors, the proposals for the remaining 13 flyovers are still pending with the civic body.
