Standing committee meeting ends in disarray |
All seven MIM members threaten not to attend any meetings
Blames Mayor B. Kartika Reddy for “not cooperating” with them
HYDERABAD: GHMC’s weekly standing committee meeting ended in disarray yet again with the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) boycotting in protest against the officials’ “indifference” to the resolutions passed thus far.
All the seven MIM members in the 15-member panel threatened not to attend any meetings in the future also. They also blamed Mayor B. Kartika Reddy of “not cooperating” with them in ensuring that the resolutions passed in the meeting are implemented in the right spirit. Save for the revised budget estimates for the next financial year, rest of the agenda was not taken up. “Not even 10 per cent of works recommended by the panel were completed. Commissioner Sameer Sharma owes us an explanation,” former Mayor Zulfiqar Ali told presspersons.
He charged senior officials including the Commissioner of not attending the meetings regularly. Many works of sanitation, roads, streetlights, etc., which have a direct bearing on the general public, remained on paper is their argument. However, the Mayor blamed MIM members’ belligerent attitude for the current state of affairs. She felt that issues should be discussed in an amicable manner.
