MLC flays GVMC on salaries

VISAKHAPATNAM: Member of Legislative Council M.V.S. Sarma has questioned linking of timely payment of salaries of Municipal teachers to the payment of PRC arrears and took exception to the Additional Commissioner P. Poornachandra Rao’s contention on the issue.
The MLC questioned as to why the GVMC was unable to ensure sending of bills by 15 {+t} {+h} of every month to LF Audit as per M&UD circular Rc.No.7910/2008/13 of April 17, 2008 and cheques drawn on first of every month. “It is ridiculous to say that a majority of teachers wanted to get PRC arrears, and why should arrears be linked to preparing salary bills?” he asked. If the Additional Commissioner assumes that delay in payment of salary was endorsed by the majority of teachers, he was mistaken, he added.
