More funds to complete drinking water projects
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy informed the Assembly on
Thursday that the State government would provide the required funds in
addition to budgetary support for drinking water projects of the Kerala
Water Authority (KWA) that can be completed within one year.
Intervening
during the question hour, the Chief Minister said the government had
decided to give priority to complete drinking water projects on the
lines of the emphasis given to road works after the United Democratic
Front (UDF) government came to power.
He said the
government would also construct check-dams across rivers, take up
renovation of the ponds, and rainwater harvesting to ensure that there
would not be water shortage in the next summer season.
Mr.
Chandy said the District Collectors had been directed to prepare a list
after consulting the MPs and MLAs to finalise the projects. Priority
would be given to Palakkad district and Chitoor, he added.
