Most staff turn up late for work at BBMP office
Panel finds barely 10 p.c. staff strength till noon at zonal office
Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) staff don’t arrive for work on
time. This, despite a plethora of circulars issued by the Commissioner
and innumerable inspections by the Standing Committee for Establishment
and Administrative Reforms.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Standing
Committee chairperson Lakshmikanth Reddy said during the panel’s
surprise inspection of the South Zonal office, it found of the 132
employees, only 34 had reported on time.
“We waited till noon. The attendance increased marginally,” he said.
The committee had submitted reports on the various
inspections to Mayor S.K. Nataraj, Commissioner Siddaiah and Additional
Commissioner (Administration) V. Ashok. “I’ve also written 50 letters
and sought additional information from Mr. Ashok. As there is no
response, the committee has decided to recommend disciplinary action
against him,” he said.
Vehicle misuse
Mr. Reddy said the inspection revealed several
irregularities in the zonal office. “Though no complaints were received
on January 9, the two Praharis (emergency vehicles) registered around 70
km in the logbook, which has been signed by the Executive Engineer.”
R. Chandrashekaraiah, committee member, said they found
four persons playing games in the records section. The four had been
appointed by Keonics to scan the building plans.
“When we entered the room, the four even asked who we
were and why were we asking them questions. This only shows the kind of
treatment that citizens get from the BBMP employees”, he said.
He said that the committee had recommended action against Keonics for appointing unqualified persons.
