Municipal Corporation takes up Vishwamitri project with minister
VADODARA: The issue of Vishwamitri rejuvenation was the highlight of discussion between the top brass of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and urban development minister Anandiben Patel on Thursday. Experts from VahoVishwamitriAbhiyan (VVA) project, a non-governmental initiative also participated in the deliberations.
Both the VMC and the VVA made presentations before Patel regarding the
project with the VMC focusing on its short-term and long-term planning
for rejuvenation of the river. The VVA too made a presentation on its
suggestions for work on the river.
Officials said that the VMC gave details of how within a time span of three years it proposed to make the river alive again. Its focus was ensuring that untreated sewage water and garbage was not dumped into the river.
Also, it gave details of how it planned to relocate slum dwellers on the banks of the river.
The longer objectives of the VMC’s plan include developing its banks
with recreational and other facilities. It also plans to have a
crocodile park.
Sources said that Patel suggested that the VMC
rope in experts who had experience of handling similar projects. She was
also of the opinion that various aspects of the project should be
planned and analyzed threadbare before beginning work in a major way on
the project.
