Municipal employees seek a better deal
Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Municipal and Corporation Staff Union (KMCSU) is launching an agitation here from Friday against the alleged move to derail the distribution of Provident Fund credit cards and the delay in disbursement of PF pension, among other things.
A press note issued by the union here on Wednesday said there was no reliable data on the PF contribution of municipal employees in the State including 5,000 regular staff and as many contingency workers. This, it said, represented the negligence on the part of the Directorate of Urban Affairs in protecting the rights of employees. The union alleged that a section of PF officials were trying to derail the government decision to distribute PF credit cards to municipal and corporation employees.
The press note said retiring employees were forced to wait for months and even years to get their PF arrears and pension. It also accused the directorate of dragging its feet on issuing the seniority list of employees and probation and confirmation orders. The union said municipal and corporation employees had to handle a host of additional responsibilities like the EMS housing scheme and census, over and above their normal duties.
