A public interest petition has been filed in the High Court
challenging the GO 141 dated April 1, 2013 issued by the municipal
administration and urban development department extending the term of
the special officers of municipal councils and corporations.

As
per the notification issued by the department, the term of the special
officers of 95 municipal councils and 13 municipal corporations expired
on March 29. The government extended their term for a  period of six
months with effect from March 30 or until the elected members assume
office. Petitioners B Bhanumurthy, an advocate f requested the court to
stay the operation of the impugned GO 141.
