Municipality approves plans to construct subways
Karur municipality on Tuesday stamped its approval on
plans to construct subways at Kulathupalayam and Pasupathypalayam. The
Kulathupalayam subway is estimated to cost Rs. 3.80 crore and the
Pasupathypalayam subway Rs. 2.80 crore.
As for the
Kulathupalayam plan, it was pointed out to the State government that the
public were finding it difficult to cross the wall raised by the
railways adjacent to the track in the area. Since accidents occurred in
the region, people were demanding a subway to help them access the other
side of the railway track.
With a plan for
construction of a subway at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.80 crore, Karur
municipal chairman on June 25 last had written to the Commissioner for
Municipal Administration seeking sanction of funds for the subway.
Earlier, as soon as the council assembled, women councillors tied rakhi
to some of their male counterparts.
