Nagpur Municipal Corporation to distribute Local Body Tax registration forms from today
NAGPUR: Finally, the
Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Tuesday issued gazette notification of
Local Body Tax (LBT) replacing Octroi from April 1. As a result, from
Wednesday, the NMC will start ‘free’ distribution of LBT registration
forms to traders across the corporation limits. Forms can also be
downloaded from the civic body’s website, said additional municipal
commissioner Hemant Pawar.
At the time of submission of the LBT forms, the NMC will collect Rs 100 as registration fee.
To ensure good number of registration, NMC will utilise its class-III
and IV manpower to distribute the forms, said Pawar, adding that the
civic body would also provide registration forms to various traders’
associations across the city.
Traders registering for LBT will
have to file their returns by May 10, said additional deputy municipal
commissioner Ravindra Kumbhare.
According to an estimate, there
are around 1 to 1.25 lakh traders who will come under the ambit of LBT.
To a query, Kumbhare said that LBT will not be imposed on ‘local’
purchase.
About the trained manpower, Kumbhare said that the
assistant municipal commissioner will be in-charge of the department,
while he will be assisted by around 100 staffers including 20 LBT
inspectors, 60 clerks and 10 LBT officers. The civic body is also
expecting Rs 4 to 5 crore per annum as a tax from state government stamp
duty.
