Nagpur Municipal Corporation to spend Rs 8.5 crore on gardens
NAGPUR: After allowing most of city’s gardens to go to seed, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has now decided to rejuvenate existing ones and create some new ones. The civic body has earmarked Rs 8.53 crore for the purpose, revealed standing committee chairman DayashankarTiwari here on Thursday. The amount was already provided for in current budget, he said.
There are 68 gardens in the city including big ones like Ambazari
developed and maintained by the civic body. Tiwari claimed development
of 53 of these gardens will be completed within one-and-a-half-years.
The work on many gardens was going on and by April end, development of
15 new gardens will be completed, he said.
The administration
will table as many as 26 proposals of various works worth almost Rs 16
crore before the standing committee scheduled to meet on February 23.
The proposals include procurement of 42 metre turn table ladder worth Rs
8 crore, purchase of medicines and insecticide worth Rs 38 lakh and
purchasing stationery materials for offices of 10 zones and its
headquarters in Civil Lines for Rs 50 lakh.
The administration
will also submit consultancy report on construction of a market complex
at Budhwar bazar in Mahal on BOT basis. At present, the market cannot
accommodate a lot of vendors and as a result many put up their stalls on
Kelibagh road creating traffic problems. “If the market complex comes
up, it will also help civic body generate revenue as rent from shops,”
the proposal stated.
Review meeting
Mayor Anil Sole on Thursday held a meeting with NMC officials including
municipal commissioner Shyam Wardhane, superintending engineer (PWD)
Prakash Urade and executive engineer (PWD) V S Johari to review progress
on various projects including new administrative building and Suresh
Bhat auditorium.
