NCP puts off decision on merger of 7 villages in PMC jurisdiction
postpone by a month the decision on the proposal seeking merger of seven
more villages in the civic jurisdiction. This comes in the wake of
Congress joining hands with the MNS in opposing the proposal.
After managing to get approval in the legal committee, the
proposal came up for discussion in the general body meeting before it
could be forwarded to the state governmet for final approval. As per the
proposal, the villages to be included in civic jurisdiction are
Nandoshi, Vadgaonsheri, Mangdewadi, Bhilarewadi, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi,
Jambhulwadi and Kolewadi. These are in addition to the 28 villages that
were given consent by the the civic body recently.
NCP leader Subhash Jagtap said the proposal to include more
villages in PMC limits is to stop the rampant ongoing illegal
construction in these villages.
However, Congress leader Arvind Shinde objected by saying that
the civic body should consider the adverse impact of including more
villages in civic limits.
“It is improper to add more villages in civic limits till the PMC
provides basic civic facilities to the already merged villages,” said
Shinde.
Congress leader Ulhas Bagul said the civic body should take into
consideration the increase in population in the city and its possible
impact on the existing civic facilities.
MNS leader Vasant More said the villages proposed to be merged
are far from the civic limits and the administration should visit them
before recommending their inclusion in the civic jurisdiction.
In the proposal, the civic administration has cited the villages
are adjoining to the area earlier proposed to be merged in the civic
jurisdiction and hence could be added to the list.
While Vadgaonsheri village had already got the administration’s
nod, the civic chief said the other six villages could be included in
the PMC limits too.
