New bus stand to get concrete floor
The new bus stand in the town will get a facelift with more amenities for passengers and adequate space for parking buses.
The
entire bus stand measuring about 2,500 square metres has been riddled
with potholes with poor drainage facility adding to the hardship of
passengers and crew.
The municipality has drafted a
plan to provide concrete flooring at the bus stand. The bus stand now
has about 50 bus bays. The shops in the area, however, would not be
altered.
“The work would be executed under the
Rs.50-crore special grant received by the municipality under centenary
celebrations,” said S.A.S. Sait, municipal chairman (in-charge).
As
a temporary arrangement, the bus stand would be shifted to the ground
opposite the Government Arts College for Women. C. Manoharan, District
Collector, accompanied by municipal officials and Mr.Sait, inspected the
grounds. The temporary bus stand, about 500 metres away from the
existing one.The work is expected to be completed in three months.
