New civic vice-chairman
T.O. Mohanan, Congress councillor in the Kannur
municipality, was elected municipal vice-chairman at a Council meeting
here on Monday.
He polled 32 votes and his rival E.K.
Muhammad Shameem got eight. Mr. Mohanan, who represents the Camp Bazar
ward, had been serving as chairman of the standing committee on welfare.
Previous
chairperson M.C. Sreeja of the Congress and vice-chairman C. Sameer of
the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) stepped down to honour a
pre-election power-sharing agreement. Mr. Mohanan, a lawyer, is general
secretary, DCC and secretary, Indian Lawyers Congress State committee.
