New Council Hall at Rs. 12.65 crore

The Corporation Council has decided to seek the State
Government’s approval to construct a new Council Hall at Rs. 12.65
crore. A resolution passed at the Monday’s Council meeting said that the
corporation had on July 24 passed a resolution to construct the hall at
Rs. 9.70 crore. S.P.S. Associates, the contractor engaged for the
purpose, had proposed the construction of a new Council Hall with modern
amenities at Rs. 12.65 crore. The hall that would come up on the
Corporation main office premises would accommodate the existing 100
councillors, officials, journalists, and members of the public. Adequate
space would be left for further expansion.
Coimbatore
Corporation will spend Rs. 60 lakh towards improving infrastructure in
schools. A resolution passed on Monday said that the civic body would
spend the money towards improving grounds in elementary schools and
installing new play equipment.
In another resolution,
the corporation said it would start five laboratories — one each a zone
— to offer medical testing services at affordable cost to the city’s
residents from lower economic background. To run the five centres it
would hire contract workers, as decided at the Health Committee meeting.
The
corporation would appoint a medical officer to monitor the functioning
of the laboratories. The corporation would spend Rs. 12.25 lakh a centre
to buy equipment. This would be a one-time investment. The recurring
expenditure for each centre was Rs. 1.08 lakh.
