KOLLAM: New Mayor of Kollam V. Rajendrababu has said that he will take the lead in organising a mega adalat at the level of the city Corporation headquarters and adalats at the level of the Corporation zonal offices to find an early solution for the problems of the people living in the city.
Addressing a ‘meet-the-press’ programme organised by the Kollam Press Club on Tuesday, he said that formalities for the adalats would be completed at the earliest and he was confident that the adalats would commence by mid-April. Mr. Rajendrababu said the cooperation of the Corporation staff would be ensured for the success of the adalats.
He said he would personally seek the cooperation of Corporation employees for the successful implementation of the welfare programmes and projects evolved by the council and the State government. He would adopt a policy of coordination with the employees.
The Mayor said that since his term was only for six months, he did not have any new project to offer for the city. But earnest steps would be taken for the early completion of the on-going projects. In fact, many of these projects were nearing completion. These projects included the Asramam-Kappalandimukku four lane road, the Chinnakada underpass, a new bus stand at Aandamukham, the Kadappakkada and Polayathodu shopping complexes and the garbage treatment plant at Kureepuzha.
He said the Chinnakada underpass project could not be dropped. But the delay was because the railway authorities were not handing over the land required to construction the approach road on one side of the underpass. He said he would seek the help and support of Union Ministers from the State and N. Peethambara Kurup, MP, when it came to approaching the Railways for the land.
All steps would be taken to further improve the image of the Corporation. Mr. Rajendrababu said as Mayor, he would make himself available to the people at any time.
