New Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation HQ to be opened on Feb 18
NAVI MUMBAI: Sources at the civic body said the new Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) headquarters will be thrown open on February 18.
The much-delayed project had come under criticism due to its astounding Rs 155 crore cost and the civic body sanctioning in indiscriminately hacking trees to ‘improve visibility’.
The date of the inauguration was also in doubt, as the civic body leaders wanted NCP supremo Sharad Pawar to do the honours. Corporators had held up a general assembly session with the demand the names of every single member of the council be engraved on a plaque outside the structure.
Deputy municipal commissioner J Sinnarkar affirmed the dates had been decided. “The new headquarters should be inaugurated on February 18. The final touch ups to the structure are underway,”
