Night foodstreet: MC to present another proposal
According to information, a delegation of dabha owners of Industrial Area met mayor Anu Chatrath a few days back. The members requested her to rehabilitate them by providing them permanent venues similar to the ones given to old booksellers in Sector 15.
Giving due concern to the proposal, the mayor assured them that they would be accommodated in the night foodstreet to be set up in the area.
Talking to TOI, mayor Anu Chatrath said, “We are mulling on the issue and the matter will be discussed with officials of the UT administration in the forthcoming meeting. The plea put forward by the delegation of dhaba owners will be considered.”
She said the civic body’s engineering wing was also planning to develop areas around the night foodstreet near Panjab University.
According to sources in the engineering wing, the parking area of the street would be increased in the coming days, so that maximum vehicles can be accommodated. Besides, more streetlights will be installed for the convenience of public. Meanwhile, construction work of another night foodstreet, to come up in the southern division, is yet to begin.
It may be recalled that the site was inaugurated by former mayor Kamlesh, but the project has not been completed yet.
The issue was also raised several times by area councillor Jatinder Bhatia in monthly house meetings of the municipal corporation.
