NMC names directors on new public transport company
On Saturday, municipal commissioner Aseem Gupta appointed five top civic officials as directors of the company. Mayor Archana Dehankar will be its chairman while municipal commissioner Aseem Gupta will serve as vice chairman and managing director. The company will be fully owned by the civic body.
Traffic engineer Nasir Khan has been appointed as executive director of NMPL while city engineer Sanjay Gaikwad, chief engineer Ashok Shambharkar, additional municipal commissioner Ajay Ramteke and chief accounts and finance officer Vilas Kawle were appointed as other directors.
The NMC general body had in its meeting on July 28 taken a decision under section 58(B) of City of Nagpur Corporation Act (CNC Act), to form a separate company for city transport services. It had then decided to appoint deputy mayor Shekhar Sawarbandhe, ruling party leader Anil Sole, standing committee chairman Pravin Bhisikar and the leader of opposition as directors from the office bearers side.
The urban development department through a letter dated December 1, 2009, too has approved the proposal. Further, recently the standing committee too decided to appoint three state government transport officials on deputation to take care of the operation and management of all city bus services.
At present, NMC has given Vansh Nimay Infra Projects the licence for operation and maintenance of city bus services. It is operating a fleet of 230 Starbuses of its own. Under the ambitious Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, the urban development department has sanctioned 300 more buses for the city transport services. Of this, about 240 buses have reached the city and are to be pressed into service by the same operator, Vansh Nimay, from January 26. The remaining 60 buses may arrive soon, a traffic department official said.
