NMC roads good, others bad: Mayor
NAGPUR: The heavy rains of the season have exposed the shoddy quality of work in most city roads. Potholes have surfaced on almost every road. Even if there are no potholes, the surface is chipped off affecting the ride quality. Every stretch badly needs repairs.
But for some strange reason, Mayor Archana Dehankar cannot see it. She claimed the roads maintained by Nagpur Municipal Corporation were in good condition. “It`s only those maintained by other agencies like Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), state public works department (PWD) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) that are in bad shape,” she told TOI.
Still she asked NMC officials, along with those of NIT, PWD, and NHAI, to start start repair immediately on roads built and widened under the integrated roads development programme (IRDP). Dehankar and municipal commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal had convened a meeting of NMC departments and other agencies to review the progress of road repair work after conducting a survey of pathetic conditions of roads.
“The roads maintained by NIT and PWD are in bad condition and need repairs. NIT officials were not present in the meeting. So all 16 standing committee members including chairman Sandeep Joshi decided to meet NIT chief Sanjay Mukharjee on Thursday with same request,” she added.
