No let-up in crowding at corporation office
Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: A day after the City Corporation announced that it was suspending the special campaign for distribution of birth certificates under the proposed Unique ID Card system for school children, applicants continued to pour in. From early morning on Thursday, more than 3,000 citizens queued up at the Corporation office to collect certificates for their children.
“With so many applicants turning up, we decided to revive the special counters that were wound up following the decision to suspend the campaign on Wednesday. Employees were deputed to accept applications at the counters,” Mayor C. Jayan Babu said. He, however, said no fresh applications would be accepted from Friday.
To be revived in April
“We have decided to revive the special campaign in April after streamlining the distribution system and intimating the existing applicants. Only then will fresh applications for birth certificates be received at the office,” he said.
The distribution of certificates was suspended on Wednesday following the chaos caused by the huge daily turnout of applicants at the Corporation premises.
