No one to take over in Mayor’s absence
BANGALORE: Seems like the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is too busy to hear the woes of the people.Recently, the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi that approached the Palike to submit a memorandum to the Mayor were disappointed when they were told that the latter was not available. They, instead had to submit it to BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah .
An 18member team from the Palike, including the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, Finance and Taxation committee chairman, senior corporators and officials from the department of Solid Waste Management (SWM) are on an official tour to Mumbai, to take note of the solid waste management there.
As per Section 61 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act1976, the Deputy Mayor will have to assume charge in the absence of the Mayor.
It further states that if the Mayor is not able to discharge his duties for more than eight consecutive days, then, the Deputy Mayor will take charge until the former returns. In case, both the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor are absent, then, a senior corporator takes charge to carry out any duties which requires urgent consent.
But in this case no one was named.
