No penal interest on land tax dues till March 31
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Local Self-Government Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty has said that the penal interest on land tax dues would be waived for those who pay the dues in single payment before March 31.
As per the Panchayati Raj Act and the Municipalities Act, there are provisions to levy penal interest from tax payers who fail to pay the first instalment of land tax before the first half of the financial year. But, the Government has noticed that some confusion prevailed among tax payers following the tax revision with regard to the buildings and mobile towers in the local body limits which led to unintentional defaults.
It is in this context that the Government has now issued orders to waive the penal interest. However the benefit of the waiver will be available only to those who pay the dues in single payment before March 31.
