On I-Day, civic body to launch emergency services

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) would launch on August 15 its much-awaited scheme of emergecy service for citizens that would help save many lives accident victims if they get medical treatment during the golden hour.As per the service, the civic body will incur the expenses for hospitalisation of accident victims, up to Rs 10,000 a person, so that the injured can get immediate medical care during the golden hour. “The civic budget has made a provision of Rs 25 lakh for the purpose. The intention is to encourage the private hospitals to treat accident victims as soon as possible so that precious life are not lost due to delay in medication,” said Nilesh Nikam, leader of house in PMC. A meeting with representatives of all private hospitals will be held so that no hospital turns down any accident victim, he said. However, the civic body has put a condition that the patient should shift to any of the civic or government hospital for treatment within next 24 hours.
We will give extension of stay in private hospital if the victim is in very serious situation,” he said.
