Over 23 lakh voters in Ernakulam
KOCHI: There are 23,00,027 voters eligible to vote in the local bodies polls in the district, of whom 11,51,993 are men and 11,48,034 are women.In the Kochi Corporation and the 12 municipalities, women form a significant chunk.
Of the 3,71,214 voters in the Corporation, 1,92,734 are women and 1,78,480 are men. The 12 municipalities together have 7,34,842 voters, of whom 3,77,922 are women compared to the 3,56,920 men. The story is different in the 84 panchayats where there are 15,65,185 voters, of whom men are 7,95,073 and women 7,70,112.
Among the municipalities, Aluva has the least number of voters, while Tripunithura leads with the maximum number of voters. Around 21 polling stations will be reorganised in the district as a part of the decision of the Election Commission, District Election Officer and Collector M Beena has said.
Meanwhile, the defacement squad, on Tuesday, registered 62 cases in connection with the violation of poll norms.
The squad seized 677 campaign articles, including 11 boards, 27 banners, 25 flex boards, 597 posters and 17 flags from different places in the district.
