While the city boasts of new projects under the
Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and a metro rail
project, basic amenities and maintenance still elude the citizens.

Overflowing drains is one such recurring problem.

At several places, it goes unnoticed for a long time and residents are forced to resort to makeshift arrangements.

At
the 75-foot road near Dolphin Hotel, drain is overflowing on to the
road and the situation has been continuing for a long time now, say
residents.

For their day-to-day movement and chores
residents are forced to keep old planks or cement poles and literally
make a tightrope walk.

In the vicinity too, the underground drainage work has been going on.

The area is a busy commercial centre and overflowing drain is a sore sight.

It
also involves the danger of a passing vehicle splashing water and both
pedestrians and two-wheeler drivers have to be on their guard.

With the drainage work has been going on at a snail’s pace, residents are at the receiving end for sometime now.
