Pay up property tax, avoid BBMP notice
BANGALORE: Tax evaders, beware! Thanks to the impending revenue crisis, BBMP is finally girding up to tighten its property tax collection process. The long-pending process of random scrutiny for all three years in this block period will take off shortly.
“Overall, 30% of the returns filed will be scrutinized in the next three months, with 10% earmarked for each year. Notices will be immediately issued to property owners who have filed wrong returns. We hope to start it soon and continue with property surveys for the PIDs,” BBMP special commissioner K R Niranjan told TOI.
However, before this, the Palike hopes to target properties yet to get into the tax bracket. The coming week will see them issuing notices to properties identified so far using the GIS-based survey.
TAXING NUMBERS
As on date, tax counters have collected a total of Rs 800 crore for 2010-11. The revised target set for the current block period is Rs 1,500 crore.
