PCMC neglect posting zonal committee info to website PAGE 7 cleared/md PCMC neglect
PUNE: Barring Zone C, the remaining three zones of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have neglected to put up the agendas and proceedings of zonal committee meetings on the PCMC website.
The PCMC area is divided in four zones, A, B, C and D, for administrative purposes. A zonal officer heads the civic administration of the zone. Each zone has a zonal committee which looks after the administration of the respective zone. There are 27 wards in Zone A, 23 in Zone B, 28 in Zone C and 27 in Zone D.
The zonal committees have powers to take decisions to implement zonal-level projects with maximum expenditure of Rs 10 lakh. The PCMC also gives them special budget to undertake such projects. The projects that the zones undertake are mostly for repairing footpaths, roads, pipelines and other small works that affect the daily lives of residents.
One corporator from the zone is chosen as zonal president and holds the monthly meetings. Corporators from all the wards in the zone attend the meeting.
In a recent development, the civic body had decided to post agendas and proceedings of the weekly standing committee meetings, monthly general body meetings, fortnightly meetings of law committee, women and child welfare and slum committee, the agendas and the proceedings of the monthly zonal committee meetings. in its official website.
A visit to the PCMC website www.pcmcindia.gov.in has revealed that the last update about Zone A committee meeting was on December 7, 2009 when the agenda for the meeting held on December 11, 2009 was uploaded. Zone B committee meeting was updated last in June 2010 when the agenda for June 9, 2010 meeting and the proceedings of that meeting were uploaded. Zone C committee meeting was updated last on August 17, 2010. Zone D committee meeting was updated last in March 2009.
Speaking on the issue, municipal commissioner Ashish Sharma said, “Instructions were given to the civic officials to update the website regularly. I will check with the civic officials and look into the matter.”
Neelkanth Poman, computer officer, PCMC said, “The PCMC’s official website is updated when the municipal secretary department releases the agendas and the proceedings of the weekly standing committee meetings, monthly general body meetings and fortnightly meetings of law committee, women and child welfare and slum committee. We are ready to update the information of the zonal committee meetings too. But we do not receive the requisite information from the respective zonal offices.”
Pandurang Zure, zone A officer, said, “We will shortly send the information about zonal committee meetings to the computer department for updating the official website.” Dilip Gawde, Zone B officer, said that there were no proposals for the zonal meetings held in July and August, as a result no information was sent to the computer department. Vishwas Bhosekar, Zone D officer, said, “The requisite information will be sent to the computer department for updating the website.”
