PCMC to check octroi papers before clearing bills
Letters in this regard were sent to heads of various departments on November 26. Civic contractors bring raw material from outside the municipal limits. The departments have been directed to inform the contractors that they have to pay octroi even if the material was meant for civic projects.
Sharma has told officials to check bills of the material which has been brought into the municipal limits. “If it is noticed that a contractor has not paid octroi, the amount of money towards octroi may be deducted from his bill amount,” the commisssioner said.
Accounts department chief Neelkanth Londhe said, “The accounts department is already acting on the letter by civic commissioner”.
Ashok Munde, assistant commissioner and octroi department chief, said the move will go a long way in preventing octroi evasion.
