PCMC to hold zonal level meetings for sanitation problems
PUNE: Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor Yogesh Behl and municipal commissioner Ashish Sharma will hold zone level meetings with corporators next week to discuss the sanitation and health related problems in their wards.
Sharma said that intensive discussions on health and sanitation problems in the entire area under the municipal limits cannot be held at one meeting alone. As a result, it was decided that separate meetings will be held in all four zones with the corporators.
Health problems, he said, are related to house-to-house garbage collection, lifting of garbage from bins, transportation of garbage, sweeping of roads and spraying of insecticide and pesticide.
The decision to hold zonal level meetings was taken on Monday as several corporators had complained at the general body meeting held last week about sanitation and health problems in their wards. Behl had then announced that a meeting will be held with corporators on Monday. However, many corporators said that they were not able to attend the meeting on Monday because the meeting was held well before the scheduled time.
Independent corporator Maruti Bhapkar said, “The meeting was scheduled to begin at 4 pm as per the mayor’s assurance in the GB meeting. But the meeting was held at 1 pm and only group leaders of parties in the PCMC were invited for it. This was purposely done so that corporators would not get an opportunity to air their grievances.”
