PCMC to insure staff, equipment
The insurance cover for fire brigade employees has also been increased and has been made uniform.
Speaking to TOI on Saturday, Subhash Machare, chief of the land records department, PCMC said, “The department has sent letters to these departments and sought information from them about the equipment to be insured.”
Another official in the land records department said, “The PCMC had insured 10 properties till 2007-08. These include Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital, Ramkrishna More auditorium, Acharya Atre auditorium, the PCMC main office building, Sangvi swimming pool and the sewage treatment plant at Kasarwadi. Now we will insure some more municipal properties. We have sought information from the electricity department about the number of employees working on roads who need to be insured.”
The PCMC has also decided to give insurance cover to 84 fire brigade employees and nine employees of the Bahinabai Chaudhary zoo.
“The insurance company will provide Rs 10 lakh as compensation if a fire brigade employee dies on duty and Rs 5 lakh if he gets permanently disabled while on duty. Earlier, insurance cover up to Rs 2 lakh was provided to a fire officer, upto Rs 1.75 lakh to a station duty officer and station sub-officer, upto Rs 1.5 lakh to a leading fireman and upto Rs 1 lakh to a firemen and driver,” the official said.
