PUNE: A four-storey building under construction and the foundation of another building were demolished in Sangvi area on Friday as part of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s ongoing drive against unauthorized constructions. With this, the civic administration has signalled its resolve not to back away from the drive.
The four-storied building was being constructed at Omkar colony in
Pimpale Gurav along the Pavana river bed. The demolition drive started
around 3pm. As crowds thronged the Pimpale Gurav-Sangvi road to witness
the demolition, the police had to disperse them to make way for the
excavators and forklifts through the narrow road towards the Pavana
river.Of the six unauthorized buildings that were to be demolished, only one was demolished.
The foundation of an unauthorized building covering an area of 5,000
sq.ft on a three-acre plot reserved for a playground was demolished near
Sai chowk in Sangvi amidst heavy police security. The police patrolled
the roads of nearby areas in Sangvi to deter the people from going to
the spot to watch the drive and obstruct work.
The drive was
conducted under the guidance of MT Kamble, city engineer and Gulab
Dangat, executive engineer. Five deputy engineers, eight junior
engineers and 15 labourers participated in the drive. Vishnu Mane, assistant commissioner of police, led a force of 100, comprising both men and women, that provided bandobast for the drive.
