‘Plan a new market building’
In response to public eye feature on traffic congestion near Mangalore Central Market published on September 22, B. Smitha Rao of Lady Hill says, “The sellers of Mangalore Central Market and the representatives of Mangalore City Corporation should come together and bring out a creative plan for reconstruction and renovation of the Central Market building. Such a plan should be promptly executed to provide complete infrastructure for all sellers and ensure maintenance of hygiene and cleanliness.
“Entry and exit of heavy vehicles should be restricted for certain hours in the morning, failing which penalties should be imposed. Vendors operating outside the Central Market building should be optimally accommodated within.
“It is necessary to invite and consider the views of the general public who add to the business of the market. Self-discipline, self-hygiene and self-effort by all stakeholders can go a long way in making Mangalore Central market a better place for trade.”
