‘Plan modified as per citizens’ wishes’
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Kishor Kshirsagar detailed the Shivaji Park beautification plan to Hindustan Times.
What does the plan involve?
It includes levelling the ground, replacing tiles at the jogging track, planting trees and repairing the compound wall, murals. As per the citizens’ suggestion, we are trying to keep the ground open by not construct anything new.
Why are locals opposing the plan?
We displayed the plan details and met with them. All their suggestions have been incorporated.
We don’t know why are they opposing it now.
What were the changes made?
The locals were mainly opposing the demolition of the parapet (katta), so we decided to leave it as it is. We will only repair the parts that are damaged.
What is the project cost and when will it be complete?
It will cost an estimated Rs 6.5 crore. The work has begun and it will be complete in a month’s time.
