Plan to develop third beachfront at Lawson’s Bay
VISAKHAPATNAM: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation plans to develop a third beachfront in the city at Lawson’s Bay.
Municipal officials have been asked to prepare plans so as to take it
up this year. If a culvert is to be built across a storm water drain, a
40-ft road laid and beautification taken up it will be the third
beachfront for the city after Ramakrishna Beach and Rushikonda,
Municipal Commissioner V.N. Vishnu has said. He told reporters here on
Monday that he and Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman Ajeya Kallam had
made a joint inspection of the area.
The development of the beachfront is to be taken up with the ‘51 per
cent’ funds the port pays for taking up development works in the city.
The officials have been asked to prepare designs, layout and estimates by December 15.
The area will be spruced up and lights arranged to make it suitable
for visitors, Mr. Vishnu said. Sea is relatively shallow in the Lawson’s
Bay area when compared to Ramakrishna Beach and during Sivaratari and
other festivals people take a holy dip there.
