Planetarium to come up at Sahakarnagar
The PMC will build a planetarium in Sahakarnagar for everyone to view the planets, stars and constellations.
“The proposal for planetarium was recently approved by the civic
administration and work would start with immediate effect. The project
is expected to be ready by August 2013,” said Congress corporator Ulas
Bagul, who took initiative for the planetarium. Pune would be third city
in the state to have a planetarium after Mumbai and Nagpur. The
planetarium will be named after former union minister of science and
technology late Vilasrao Deshmukh. The planetarium will be build in
Sahakarnagar adjoining the ground of Rajiv Gandhi Academy of E-Learning
school on 11,200 square feet land across two floors. “It will be
developed using advanced automated digital technology of international
standards. Visitors will be able to view the complete sky and related
visuals,” said the civic officer. Renowned German company Carl Zeiss
Jena GmbH will provide technology support for the planetarium which will
be build at a cost of Rs 5 crore. The planetarium will have an advanced
high capacity telescope installed on a tower from night sky viewing.
The campus will have ample parking space.
